A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the
bricks others have thrown at him.
Speak when you're angry, and you will make the best speech
you will ever regret.
A man only learns in two ways, one by reading, and the other by
association with smarter people."
If you look the other way, you get what you deserve.
The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual
superiority to other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his
moral inferiority to any creature that cannot.
What a school thinks about its library is a measure of what
it thinks about education.
In literature, as in love, we are astounded at what is chosen by
others.
All evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
There are no secrets to success. It is the result of
preparation, hard work and learning from failure.
Genius
without Education is like Silver in the Mine.
I've got a theory that if you give 100% all the time, somehow
things will work out in the end.
Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has
reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.
If you choose not to decide--you still have made a choice! The art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the
right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.
The ability to laugh at oneself and recognize one's own human
weakness is a desirable quality of leadership.
It is a most mortifying reflection for a man to consider what he
has done, compared to what he might have done. Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes
from bad judgment.
Dedication is not what others expect of you; it is what you can
give to others.
It is easy to take liberty for granted when you have never had it
taken from you.
If you don't think every day is a good day, just try missing one.
Some people give time, some money, some their skills and
connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has
something to give.
Continous effort, not strength or intelligence is the key to
unlocking our potential.
The character of a man is known from his conversations.
If you stand up and are counted, you may get knocked down. But
remember this: a man flattened by an opponent can get up again. A man
flattened by conformity stays down for good.
He who criticizes is seldom forgiven. He who encourages is
seldom forgotten.
In giving advise, seek to help, not please your friend. Everything in life that matters most can't be purchased.
Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help
others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, "What's in it for me?"
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we
give.
To be upset over what you don't have is to waste
what you do have.
In my day, we didn't have self-esteem, we had self-respect, and
no more of it than we had earned.
Definition of status: Buying something you don't need with money
you don't have to impress people you don't like.
Remember, the greatest gift is not found in a
store nor under a tree, but in the hearts of true friends.
Keep strong, if possible. In any case,
keep cool. Have unlimited patience. Never corner an opponent, and
always assist him to save face. Put yourself in his shoes -- so as to see
things through his eyes. Avoid self-righteousness like the devil --
nothing is so self-blinding.
If you want to do something, then you will find a way. If
you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.
Education has produced a vast population able to read but unable to
distinguish what is worth reading, an easy prey to sensations and cheap appeals. I have seen what a laugh can do. It
can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful. That which we persist in doing
becomes easier not that the nature of the task has changed, but our
ability to do has increased. Ability may get you to the top, but
it takes character to keep you there.
