Football
Shaw's 2006-2007 football team was recognized and honored by the MCSD for
its outstanding season as Georgia's AAA State Runners-up at the February Board

Softball
Once again the Shaw Softball Team sponsored a college
team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Classic held at South Commons the weekend
of February 23-25. Our college this year was Auburn University--home team of our
own Brittany Day, junior pitcher.
National Women in Sports
Tracy Foster Draper (Class of 1984), Ashley Godfrey (Class of 2001), and
Chasity Hardman (Class of 2003) spoke to Shaw students Tuesday, February 20 in
the Shaw gym at Shaw's annual National Women in Sports Day Program to celebrate
girls and women's participation in athletics and sports. In 1971, when Title IX
was enacted, only one in twenty-seven girls in high school participated in
athletics. Now, one in every three girls participate in high school athletics.
More athletic opportunities are opening to girls and women of all ages and
ability levels. Students from Blackmon Road Middle School and Midland
Middle School also participated in today's event at Shaw. It is hoped that that
today's students will see these role models and be influenced by them. Shaw is
the only high school still acknowledging this day. Additionally, Ashley Godfrey was honored with
the retiring of her softball jersey by Dr. Debbie Ball.
