Alumni
Philip Wheeler
('03), Georgia Tech football team linebacker, was selected to the ALL-ACC
preseason team. Congratulations, Philip!
Baseball
Cam Greathouse,
one of four MCSD high school baseball players, was among 20 juniors selected to
represent Team Georgia in the 11th annual Junior Sunbelt Classic, June 8-13, in
Oklahoma. Georgia placed fifth among the nine teams. Cam made the all-tournament
team. Way to go, Cam!
Tennis
Marcos Rivera, a member
of the Shaw tennis team, and the Columbus Regional Tennis Association (CORTA)
were featured in the July 18 issue of the Northland Neighbors. Marcos
received the Dr. Nelson O. Tyrone, Jr. Memorial Tennis Trophy. To learn more

here. The trophy is
awarded annually to a Columbus area resident, age 18 or younger, whose actions
on the tennis court exemplify sportsmanship, character, and love of tennis.
Track
Congratulations to
Nakela Jackson,
member of Shaw's girls' track team, for signing a national letter of intent for
track and field with Fort Valley State. Nakela won the Class AAA 300-meter
hurdles in 44.56 seconds at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Georgia, at the
Georgia State Track and Field Championship. She also finished fifth in the 100
hurdles just behind teammate
Patricia Blair.
Nakela also won the 300-meter hurdles in 46.85 and the 100-meter hurdles in
15.21 at the Region 2-AAA meet, thereby earning First Team All-Bi-City honors
this past spring.

race), and Domonique Graphenreed (discus)
are competing in the track and field Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior
Olympics in Knoxville, Tennessee, July 30 through August 3 for the Fountain City
Track Club. Go Raiders!! We're pulling for you!
RAIDER PREP CAMP
The transition from middle school to high school is often
intimidating to many students. In an effort to make the jump from eighth
grade to ninth grade easier and less stressful for the parents and students,
Shaw High School is offering for the third year a free transitional program for the upcoming ninth
graders at Shaw High School July 30 -- August 2, 2007, from 8AM until 12 noon
each day.
To obtain a form for the 2007 Summer Camp,
