June 2007
CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS
Shaw broadcast students, Chantelle Quintana, Gerald Charleston, and Jeremy
Miles, are attending the National SkillsUSA TV News Anchoring competition the
week of June 25--30 in Kansas City, Missouri, along with Mr. Kip Patterson, GMR
lead teacher. The SkillsUSA championship this week is the "showcase" for the
best career and technical students in the nation. It is a multimillion dollar
event that occupies a space comparable to 16 football fields. In the 2007
competition there are over 5,000 contestants in 87 separate events and
approximately 1,500 judges and contest organizers from labor and management.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization for high school and college
students preparing to enter careers in trade, technical, or service occupations.
Each state organization holds its own annual competition in several areas with
their state winners advancing to the national competition. Chantelle, Charles,
and Jeremy placed first in Georgia. In addition to their broadcast competition,
they will attend workshops and conferences. Go Raiders, you're the best!

Shaw High School is offering for the third year a free transitional program for the upcoming ninth
graders at Shaw High School July 30 -- August 2, 2007, from 8AM until 12 noon
each day.

Arnold, Mr. Mike Forte, Mr. Barrie Clarke, or Mrs. Peggy White at (706)
