March 2008
COLLEGE/CAREER FAIR
The sixth annual Partners in Education "College and Career Fair" was held in the
Shaw Media Center the morning of March 27. Fourteen representatives from area
colleges, the military, and local businesses presented information to 350
students. Shaw's Partners in Education, TSYS, Mediacom of Columbus, and
University of Phoenix, hosted the event with classes rotating throughout the Media Center every
twenty-five minutes. Mrs. Faith Pohl, Mrs. Nancy Grantham, and Mr. George Monk are the liaisons
for TSYS, Mediacom, and University of Phoenix respectively.
CTAE
Construction
Mr. Bob Yarbrough's construction
students enhance their skills in framing a real house, such as wiring,
carpentry, floor and roof systems, shingles, applying siding, painting. etc.
They learn practically every trade involved in building a house through building
playhouses, two of which were already sold before building even began. Pictured
below are students from his third block class working on their playhouse.
FINE ARTS
Band
The Shaw High School Concert Band and the Albany State University Symphonic

Band
The Shaw band performed on March 4 at the River Center in Legacy Hall
for its mandated Large Group Performance Evaluation for the Georgia Music
Educators Association. Though playing Level 5 music in years past, band
director, Mr. George Cobb, raised the bar
and challenged his students to play at Level 6 and Level 5, and received two
excellent ratings! To his knowledge, the Shaw band was the only band in GMEA
District 3 that played a level 6.
The Shaw band will be hosting Albany State University's Symphonic Band in
concert on March 28 in the Shaw auditorium. The Shaw band will perform as well;
the time of the performance will be announced soon.

cartoons--very expressive and reflective! Click on each one to view them.
