BEREAVEMENT
Kathy Tracy, better
known to some perhaps as Mrs. Fineran, served as a teacher at Shaw High School
from 1980 until retirement in 2005. Mrs. Tracy was an educational professional
in every meaning of the term. She was a mentor and role model for students and
teachers alike, and, through the force of her personality and the strength of
her beliefs became the guiding conscience of Shaw High School. Mrs. Tracy stood
for all that was good and right and moral, and was our compass in good times and
bad. She never allowed us to accept mediocrity, never let us give up, and never
lessened her passion for helping others. After her retirement, Mrs. Tracy was a
frequent figure in the halls of Shaw, and took upon herself the goal of raising
money for the PTSA to replace the seats in our auditorium. We recognized her
service recently in this effort at our Honors' Night program and dedication of
our newly renovated auditorium on April 24, and did not realize we were seeing
her for the last time. Shaw High School and Columbus, Georgia, are better places
because of Kathleen Tracy, and we are thankful for the many things we learned
from her.
