La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (National Spanish Honor Society) sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese recognizes outstanding student achievement in the study of Spanish and promotes a continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. The group also encourages community service. To qualify for membership the student must have maintained a 90 average in Spanish I and Spanish II; have no serious discipline problems with administration; and enroll in Spanish III and/or Spanish IV and/or AP. Meetings are held twice a semester, dates to be announced. Dues of $18.00 are paid at the time of invitation and include the local and national dues and the honor cord worn at graduation if eligible. Membership in the Sociedad Honraria Hispanica is based on scholarship in the study of Spanish, overall scholarship, character, and service. Students are tapped for initiation in the spring of the year. They must have an overall 3.0 GPA, have maintained an A average in all their years of Spanish, and be enrolled in Spanish III or higher for the next school term. To continue in the society, students must be enrolled in an advanced Spanish course. Advisors: |
