October 2006
ATHLETICS
Football/Homecoming
Homecoming week this year was from October 23 through October 27, ending
with our Homecoming game against the Spencer Greenwaves on Saturday, October 28, at
Kinnett Stadium. Each day during the week had a different theme--click on link
at the top of this page (Homecoming 2006) or click
here to see photos taken during the
week. Senior, Jill Bradley was crowned by Dr. Jim Arnold during halftime
at the Homecoming game--congratualtions Jill! The 2006 Senior Homecoming
Court members included Treasure Johnson, Haley Lyman, Shanice Williams, Kayla
Whitaker, and Valarie Edwards. Freshmen
court representatives were Devin Parks and Merceytee Jones. Sophomore court
representatives were Melanie Takemoto and Joanna Checa. Junior court
representatives were Kazue Takemoto and Chantelle Quintana.
Softball
Congratulations on the Lady Softball
Raiders' 4 -- 0 victory over Northside qualifying the team for the state
sectional October 20 in Dublin.
The Lady Raider softball team made it to the State Elite Eight to be played
beginning Thursday, October 26, at South Commons. It was a great weekend
of top-notch softball. Shaw won three straight games in the winners'
bracket. They defeated Harlem 2 - 0, West Laurens 3 - 0, and then sent
Hardaway home by defeating them 5 - 0. Way to go Lady Raiders! Corri
Connally pitched all three games and Ashton Urness played flawlessly as the
catcher. Other outstanding players in the tournament were Jayln Farley,
Misha Aldridge, and Nichole Eldridge. In each game, the Lady Raiders had
nine hits. Keep up the good work girls!
Congratulations to the Lady Raiders softball team
once again on their win on October 26 in the State Softball Tournament at South
Commons against Sandy Creek 3-1. Corri Connally and Ashton Urness did a
great job pitching and catching. The Lady Raiders were defeated in the
second game 2-0 by Central of Carrollton.
The Lady Raider softball team ended their season
Saturday, October 28, in the state tournament with a loss to South Effingham in
the eighth inning by a score of 1-0. Corri Connally and Ashton Urness shut
South Effingham down until an error in the eighth inning. WE can be very
proud of this softball team who had to recover from the lost of six starters
last year. No one gave these girls much credit until the end of the
season. Their success was due to a lot of hard work. To finish in
the top eight in the state in triple A is not bad. They continued the
tradition of outstanding softball at Shaw. We will lose five seniors this
season: Corri Connally, Jayln Farley, Ashton Urness, Nicole Eldridge, and
Kydal Schaaf. They have made a great contribution to the success of this
year's team.
Congratulations to Coaches Debbie Ball and Laurie
McInroy and to the 2006 Shaw Lady Raiders Fastpitch Softball Team! They
finished the season ranked #5 in the state! We are proud of you, Lady
Raiders!
Tonya Fowler Sebring, Shaw High School Class of 1989, coached the Woodstock High
School Lady Woverines to the 2006 Georgia State AAAAA Fastpitch Softball
Championship! While at Shaw, Mrs. Sebring was s standout on the Lady
Raiders' Softball Team. Later, she played at Kennesaw State College.
Congratulations Tonya Fowler Sebring, one of Shaw's own!
