When I read about the way in
which library funds are being cut and cut, I can only think that American
society has found one more way to destroy itself.
You must have long-range
goals to keep you from being frustrated by short-range failures.
Let our children grow tall,
and some taller than others if they have in them to do so.
All that is necessary for
the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
Time goes by so fast, people
go in and out of your life. You must never miss the opportunity to tell these
people how much they mean to you.
Don't be
afraid to ask dumb questions...they're easier to handle than dumb mistakes.
If you just set out to be
liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you
would achieve nothing.
It's our choices Harry, that
show us what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
Real generosity is doing
something nice for someone who'll never find it out.
When you are laboring for
others, let it be with the same zeal as if it were for yourself.
You can make more friends in
two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by
trying to get other people interested in you.

tomorrows. Through perseverance many people win success out of what seemed destined to
be certain failure. Practice as if you are the worst; perform as if you are the best. If you train hard, you'll not only be hard but you'll be hard to beat.
The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new
eyes. Life is so much simpler when you tell the truth. Treat each day as an opportunity you have been given to truly make
a difference in the life of each person you meet. Following the path of least resistance is what makes rivers and

ask, "Compared to what?" It is better to sleep on things beforehand than lie awake about
them afterward. The first quality of courage is the willingness to launch with no

there is no success in sight. Life is like a grammar lesson. You find the past perfect and
the future tense. Leadership...the ability to see what no one else sees, to listen
when others talk and the ability to be optimistic when others are pessimistic.
Let me give so much time to the improvement of myself that I shall have no time
to criticize others. Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life.
Laughing at someone else's can shorten it! Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.
Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you can too
can become great. Life is like a mirror; it gives back only what you put into it.

bricks others have thrown at him.

If you look the other way, you get what you deserve.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we

In my day, we didn't have self-esteem, we had self-respect, and
no more of it than we had earned.
Definition of status: Buying something you don't need with money
you don't have to impress people you don't like.
Remember, the greatest gift is not found in a
store nor under a tree, but in the hearts of true friends.
Keep strong, if possible. In any case,
keep cool. Have unlimited patience. Never corner an opponent, and
always assist him to save face. Put yourself in his shoes -- so as to see
things through his eyes. Avoid self-righteousness like the devil --
nothing is so self-blinding.
If you want to do something, then you will find a way. If
you want to do nothing, then you will find an excuse.
Education has produced a vast population able to read but unable to
distinguish what is worth reading, an easy prey to sensations and cheap appeals. I have seen what a laugh can do. It
can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful. That which we persist in doing
becomes easier not that the nature of the task has changed, but our
ability to do has increased. Ability may get you to the top, but
it takes character to keep you there.
